The natural gas fire in Caneyville has been extinguished and the punctured gas line capped.

The fire, in the 1200 block of Lawrence Hayes Road, occurred Wednesday morning at approximately 9:30 when a drilling team punctured the line while digging for water.

Two Grayson County men suffered serious injuries in the fire.

“The process to mitigate the hazard was initiated (Thursday) morning and completed at approximately 12:00 p.m. CST,” according to Grayson County Emergency Management. “This involved extinguishing the fire, suppressing the gas vapors, removing the drilling equipment from the hole, (and) filling the hole with concrete and capping it off.”

Once the puncture was capped officials, including the Caneyville Fire Department, monitored the repair to ensure the hole was sealed.

The scene was cleared at 1:17 p.m.
