A man has been jailed after a fatal DUI crash killed his passenger.

Kentucky State Police said troopers on Sunday night at approximately 11:00 responded to the single-vehicle crash on Main Street in Fountain Run in Monroe County.

The preliminary investigation, according to state police, showed that 43-year-old Steven Chavis, of Tompkinsville, was traveling south on Main Street in a 2006 Toyota 4-Runner when he entered a sharp left curve in the roadway. Chavis was unable to negotiate the turn as the vehicle exited the roadway and struck a residence.

“Speed, distracted driving and impairment are believed to be factors in the collision,” Kentucky State Police said.

A passenger, 40-year-old Kiah Glover, of Louisville, was transported from the scene to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Chavis, who refused medical treatment at the scene, was arrested and charged with murder, DUI (aggravating circumstances), reckless driving, first-degree criminal mischief, and possession of marijuana.

He was lodged in the Barren County Detention Center on a $1 million cash bond.

The collision remains under investigation by Sr. Trooper Weston Sullivan.
