A 21-year-old man has shot someone not involved in an apparent road rage incident.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root said the shooting occurred Saturday afternoon at approximately 12:10 on East Laurel Road (Hwy 80), about six miles east of London, and resulted in the arrest of 21-year-old Joseph C. Brewer, of London.

The shooting, Root said, appears to be the result of a road rage incident involving Brewer and another vehicle, and not the shooting victim, 21-year-old Jayden Jackson.

“All indications are Jackson pulled up on the incident, exited his vehicle, and was shot almost immediately,” according to Root.

Jackson sustained two gunshot wounds to the torso, police said, and was transported by a bystander from the scene before being taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital London. He was then airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he underwent surgery.

Brewer was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center where he’s been charged with first-degree assault. He’s being held on a $150,000 cash bond.
