The Grayson County Cougar basketball team continued their strong summer with a pair of victories at Central Hardin on Monday afternoon.

The Cougars defeated the host Bruins in a thrilling 68-64 contest before pulling away from Fairdale 69-53.

Central Hardin

Sometimes the best way to describe a basketball game is by comparing it to a sport like tennis. This one went back and forth, up and down, and was a ton of fun to watch.

The first half for the Cougars was highlighted by strong play from Brody Armstrong who had 11 points and 8 rebounds at the break. At that point in the matchup, the Orange and Blue had a five-point advantage.

The Bruins tied the game at 36 early in the second half, but a Jack Logsdon basket on the other end gave them a lead that they wouldn’t give up again. It was tied multiple times, but Central Hardin could never get over the hump.

After a slower start, Jack Logsdon took over down the stretch by scoring 7 of the last 12 points for the Cougars to go along with four rebounds in the sequence. A Spencer Langdon jumper in the closing seconds helped ice the 68-64 win for Grayson County.

Langdon led the team in scoring with 21 points while adding three rebounds. Logsdon was right behind with 20 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks, and two assists. Armstrong also had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Kamden Sanders, Chase Baunach, Hayden Robinson, and Kyle Higdon also put the ball through the net.

Fairdale

The second game of the day for a team is always interesting. That challenge is even greater when you are missing three players who would be in the main rotation.

Fairdale had fresher legs and used that to their advantage early with a back-and-forth first half, but Spencer Langdon scored just before the buzzer to put the Cougars up three at the half.

A switch was flipped in the second half and the Cougars came out on fire. Langdon, Jack Logsdon, and Brody Armstrong all hit threes on the first possessions of the half. The roll continued after Logsdon jumped a passing lane for a steal and a breakaway dunk to put Grayson County up 45-31.

From there, it was coasting time.

One of the standouts from the game was rising freshman Kamden Sanders. He had multiple strong sequences including back-to-back buckets with a block in between, and also a strong putback after a Cougar miss.

Grayson County would use some of the younger players to help ice the 69-53 win over the Bulldogs and finish 2-0 on the day.

Logsdon led the team in scoring with 25 points and three rebounds. Langdon added 15 points and three rebounds while Sanders had 12 points and a pair of boards.

Grayson County travels to Barren County on Tuesday for two games against the host Trojans and Glasgow.

They will close the summer schedule on Friday/Saturday at the Titans Shootout in Shelbyville. They are scheduled to face Indian Hill (OH) Friday at 11:00am ET and then either LaRue County or Campbell County later that afternoon.
