Five people died and one man remains in critical condition following multiple tornadoes and strong straight-line winds impacting the commonwealth.
National Weather Service (NWS) storm assessors confirmed an EF-1 (winds of at least 90 miles per hour) tornado touched down in far eastern Meade County, while “at least (an) EF-1” twister initially touched down in far western Butler County and traveled east into central Warren County. The Butler/Warren County storm damage survey continues.
NWS damage surveyors remain at their work as there remains several regions in western and central Kentucky that experienced suspected, but not yet confirmed, tornadic activity, particularly in Hopkins, Muhlenberg and Mercer counties.
Videos and photos confirm tornadoes struck in Lyon and Caldwell counties but the NWS has not yet issued a finding.
Among those who died during the storm outbreak was a 62-year-old Radcliff woman, who, according to Hardin County Emergency Management Director Joey Scott, suffered a heart attack while walking down the stairs in her home just as a tornado warning was issued for Hardin County, WDRB.com reports.
The other victims were 48-year-old Sandra Eckard, of Dawson Springs; a 54-year-old man who died while cutting downed trees in Caldwell County; a 34-year-old Jefferson County man who was struck by a tree near Anchorage; and a 67-year-old Mercer County woman who perished when a tree fell on her house.
