Leitchfield Utilities (LU) has declared a “state of emergency for the city of Leitchfield.”
The declaration was issued because: “Our efforts to isolate our water leak have been unsuccessful,” LU said in a social media post.
LU Superintendent Dwight Embry said shutting off a line will allow “most customers” to have water service but there will be “a few customers that will be without water until the leak can be repaired.”
The affected areas were originally Lilac Road from Boston Hill Road to Lewis School Road. But, as Wednesday night and early Thursday morning wore on, and with utilities’ workers efforts to locate the leak hampered by heavy rainfall, it appears a significant percentage of Leitchfield has been left without water or with extremely low water pressure.
“We will continue to work hard to find and repair the leak as soon as possible,” Embry said. “We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.”
Embry said that customers either out of water or with low water pressure should “turn off your water heater to save your heating elements.”
