A Kentucky State Police trooper has died in an off-duty motorcycle crash.

Jonathan Johnson, 48, of Bowling Green, a Madisonville Post 2 trooper assigned to Muhlenberg County, died Tuesday morning at 10:48 at the scene of the accident on Nashville Road in Warren County.

Johnson was a nine-year veteran of the agency and was named “post-level Detective of the Year” in 2019, according to a Kentucky State Police press release. He graduated in Cadet Class 92. In addition to working at Post 2 during his career, Johnson worked out of Bowling Green Post 3.

“Trooper Johnson served and protected Kentucky’s families through the Kentucky State Police and we are saddened by this loss,” Gov. Andy Beshear said. “Please join me in praying for the Johnson family and everyone at KSP.”

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of Trooper Johnson, who was tragically killed in a motorcycle crash earlier today,” KSP Captain Derek Smith stated. “Our Post 2 personnel appreciate the outpouring of support and pray for the Johnson family as they cope with this devastating loss.”
