A Grayson County High School student has won acceptance into two Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) programs.

Sydney Powell was accepted into GSA’s visual arts and drama focus areas. She will pursue the drama focus area during a prestigious three-week residential program at the University of Kentucky.

GSA is open to sophomores and juniors “with skill in their artform, passion for creativity, an open mind, collaborative spirit, and an eagerness for learning,” according to the GSA website.

The program includes nine categories for artistic and creative growth. The selection process is highly competitive with opportunities for growing artists to develop artistically as they learn from professionals and guest artists.

The program is free for students and most universities in Kentucky, and most schools in the U.S., offer scholarships to GSA alumni.
