A longtime police officer in Bullitt County has died after collapsing while running to stop suspects from committing a theft at a go-cart track.

Pioneer Village Officer Brent Hall, 47, of Mt. Washington, died on Saturday while providing security at Kart Country in Shepherdsville.

Pioneer Village Det. JC Witherspoon told WDRB.com that eight juveniles were breaking into vending machines on the property and as Hall ran to “prevent them from completing the break-in,” he collapsed just as Shepherdsville police arrived at the scene.

He was transported to University of Louisville Hospital where he later died after suffering a cardiac arrest, Witherspoon said.

Hall served with the Pioneer Village Police Dept. for four years, according to his obituary, and previously was a Bullitt County deputy for 20 years.
