A man has been arrested after being accused of burglarizing a Leitchfield restaurant.
Early Wednesday morning, the Leitchfield Police Department responded to Hometown Hangout at 121 West White Oak Street on the report of a burglary.
Police viewed surveillance footage and observed a male enter the building through a rear door that had been left unsecured. Footage then shows the suspect, Ruben Hernandez, of Roanoke, Virginia, “forcing open the doors of a walk-in cooler inside the business,” the Leitchfield Police Department said in a press release.
“Multiple cases of beer had been opened and product was taken,” police said.
The investigation resulted in Leitchfield officers and Grayson County deputies arriving at an apartment on Penner Drive.
“Officers ultimately forced entry into the apartment with the permission of the resident and located Hernandez,” according to police.
Once police were inside the apartment, Hernandez resisted officers and refused to comply with verbal commands before being taken into custody.
“Upon further inspection,” police said, “a case of Budweiser beer and multiple Modelo beer bottles were located inside of the apartment which were not purchased by the tenant …”
Additionally, a sweatshirt, which matched the shirt worn by the suspect during the burglary, was found near where Hernandez was sitting in the apartment.
Hernandez was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking, second-degree criminal mischief, and resisting arrest. He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
