Three horses died and four others were critically injured when a tractor-trailer crashed into a overpass embankment on the Bluegrass Parkway.
The Bardstown Police Department said the accident occurred Monday morning at approximately 4:50 near exit 25 when an eastbound semi crossed the median into the westbound lanes, striking an “embankment of the overpass.”
The truck was carrying seven thoroughbred horses. Three died at the scene while four others were transported to an animal hospital.
The driver of the truck, who was extricated from the vehicle by the Bardstown Fire Department, suffered several lacerations, including one to his head and a “severe laceration” to one of his legs, police said. He was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital. Police said the driver’s injuries were not life-threatening.
