A Grayson County woman has survived after flipping a vehicle into a pond and escaping after the car came to rest in approximately 15 feet of water.

Wednesday morning at 8:20, Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins and Chief Deputy Sonny Poteet, the Anneta Fire Department and EMS responded to the 1100 block of St. Anthony Road on the report of a car leaving the roadway and entering a pond.

Upon arriving at the scene, police found that the female driver, in her 20s and a Grayson County resident, had the wherewithal to escape the vehicle and frigid water (at the time of the wreck, the temperature was 37 degrees), and make it safely to the pond’s bank.

The woman was treated at the scene before being transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Further investigation showed the vehicle, a Chevrolet Cobalt, was traveling east when the driver lost control and exited the roadway. The vehicle then appeared to strike a small earthen rise causing the Chevy to flip multiple times before entering the water.

Leitchfield Fire Department diver Shane Broome was summoned to the scene to find the vehicle, which was not visible from the bank.

Broome located the Chevy, which was on its top, approximately 20 feet from the bank in about 15 feet of water. The vehicle was removed from the pond at approximately 10:30 a.m.
