
The head boys basketball coach at John Hardin High School has died.
Austin Jones, 41, died Monday morning. Jones was a special education teacher at the Hardin County high school.
A cause of death has not been released.
“Mr. Jones was a vital member of the John Hardin family,” Hardin County Schools said in a press release. “Generations will feel his impact on students, his fellow staff members, the school, alumni and our community. He passionately cared for students and their well-being. He was a mentor and a friend. He gave selfless dedication to the school. He gave everything he had to his family, his students and his team.”
Jones, after serving as an assistant coach at John Hardin, was named head coach in 2021 and led the Bulldogs to the Sweet 16 in the 2021-2022 season. He previously was assistant basketball coach at Warren Central High School and Owensboro Catholic, according to The News-Enterprise. He was a 2000 graduate of North Hardin High School.
John Hardin was scheduled to take on Elizabethtown High School on Tuesday. That game has been postponed.
Jones was married with two children.
