A former Radcliff police officer accused of having a sexual relationship with a juvenile in Hardin County has died.

Kentucky State Police, as previously reported by K105, arrested 69-year-old David R. Love, of Radcliff, on January 4 and charged him with second-degree rape (no force), second-degree sodomy (no force) and tampering with physical evidence.

During an interview with police, Love admitted he had a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl who turned 14-year-old during the illicit encounters, according to a report by The News-Enterprise. The alleged relationship began in October 2023.

Love also told police he had child pornography on an electronic device but that he deleted the evidence.

Love was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center but was released after posting a partially secured $25,000 bond.

The Hardin County Coroner’s Office told news outlets that Love died Tuesday morning at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown.

According to the website, Cop Blaster.com, Love was a retired Radcliff Police Department detective.

Love’s mugshot, where his face is discolored (possibly bruised), swollen and wrapped in thick bandages, led to public conjecture about his condition. The New York Post, citing unnamed sources, reports that Love was battling cancer and the treatment he was receiving caused the change in his appearance.

No cause of death has been released.
