Sherry Ballard, the mother of Crystal Rogers, and four of Rogers’ five children, are suing Brooks Houck, one of the men charged in her death.

Houck, 41, of Bardstown, Rogers’ longtime boyfriend and the father of one of Rogers’ children, was charged in September with complicity to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence in the July 2015 disappearance and death of the 35-year-old Rogers.

Ballard and four of Rogers’ children are suing Houck as the administrators of her estate, according to a report by WDRB.com. The suit claims, the Louisville television station reports, Houck “intentionally and wrongfully caused” Rogers’ death.

The suit was filed Monday in Nelson Circuit Court.

Houck is lodged in the Oldham County Detention Center on a $10 million cash bond.

In September, Joseph L. Lawson, 32, of Willisburg, was arrested and charged in the Rogers case with conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence, according to a law enforcement document.

Earlier this month, Lawson’s father, 53-year-old Steve E. Lawson, of Chaplin (Nelson Co.), was arrested in Indiana and charged with criminal conspiracy to commit murder charge in connection to Rogers’ death. He was indicted in May for tampering with physical evidence. That indictment was sealed until early December.
