The body of a man who allegedly assaulted a deputy and ran from police has been found in Pulaski County.
The remains of 20-year-old David J. Whitt, of Casey County, were found near Bethlehem Ridge Road, about five miles northwest of Somerset. The body was located by a farmer cutting firewood, according to WYMT.com.
Whitt’s body was found near where he fled from police after being accused of assaulting a Pulaski County deputy on September 30.
That incident began when Whitt’s mother reported him missing. A Pulaski County deputy, conducting a welfare check, made contact with Whitt and offered to take him to his mother’s residence, according to Pulaski County Sheriff Bobby Jones.
While en route to Whitt’s mother’s home, and while the deputy was on the phone with dispatch, Whitt climbed from the back seat to the front seat of the cruiser through an open partition and began attacking the deputy. Whitt, Jones said, attempted to take the deputies firearm, but the deputy tased Whitt, which police said had “little to no effect on Whitt.”
He then fled from the deputy on foot.
Whitt had a recent history of hostility toward police, as he had three “felony warrants stemming from assaults on law enforcement in Pulaski and Casey counties,” Jones stated.
