The Leitchfield Police Department announced its 2023 Officer of the Year award on Saturday, and it’s a familiar winner.
For the second year in a row, LPD announced that Officer Eugene Cain has been selected the agency’s Officer of the Year as voted on by his peers.
“Officer of the Year is a departmental award that is voted on by peers and supervisors based on outstanding performance throughout the year,” LPD Det. Sgt. Ian Renfrow previously said.
Cain, who is also celebrating a decade with the department, was additionally recognized as the winner of LPD’s Occupant Safety award for writing the most seat belt violations in 2023.
Cain was presented with the Officer of the Year award by LPD Chief David Riley.
Last week, Officer Ty Whitaker, who graduated from the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training’s Basic Training Academy in December 2022, won LPD’s 2023 Impaired Driving Enforcement award. Whitaker, who recorded 15 impaired driving arrests, was presented the award by LPD Sgt. Keith Harrell.
