A Leitchfield man has been arrested in the theft of a vehicle Tuesday morning.
Kendall Payne, 27, was arrested late Wednesday morning in Elizabethtown. He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center where he’s been charged with receiving stolen property (more than $10,000), giving an officer a false name and no driver’s license.
The stolen vehicle, a 2019 Mazda CX-9, was taken from a residence on Woodlawn Avenue sometime between midnight and 6:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. The keys had been left in the vehicle.
The vehicle was spotted on a traffic camera on the University of Louisville campus Tuesday afternoon. It was again seen on a traffic cam in Louisville Wednesday morning at approximately 6:20.
The vehicle, according to police, has been returned to its owner.
Payne was also arrested in February 2023 when the Leitchfield Police Department raided a home on Commerce Drive looking for a wanted person. Payne was at the residence and in possession of methamphetamine.
In that case, Payne was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), tampering with physical evidence, and possession of marijuana.
