A former Hartford police chief is facing over 15 charges.
Brent Lindsey, who was placed on administrative leave in late October 2023, was arrested on Tuesday by Kentucky State Police and charged with 10 counts of sexual abuse, three counts of tampering with physical evidence, official misconduct, voyeurism, and trafficking in a controlled substance.
Lindsey, sworn in as Hartford police chief on July 29, 2021, was placed on leave as the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force investigated possible malfeasance. He resigned his position on November 16, according to Hartford Mayor Beau Wright.
WFIE.com reports that Lindsey was arrested following an indictment.
Lindsey, an Ohio County native, was a law enforcement officer for 15 years.
He was terminated from the Beaver Dam Police Department in 2013 for official misconduct after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship, according to a person with knowledge of the 2013 investigation.
Lindsey is free after posting bond.
Wright issued the following statement to WFIE.com:
On October 27th, 2023, the City of Hartford became aware of an ongoing criminal investigation carried out by the Pennvrile Narcotics Taskforce. The investigation involved Chief Brent Lindsey. As a result, the City of Hartford decided to place Chief Brent Lindsey on administrative leave while the investigation was ongoing. After being on administrative leave for about three weeks, Mr. Lindsey eventually resigned from his position on November 16th, 2023.
The Hartford Police Department remains fully committed to serving and protecting its citizens, and the actions taken in this regard are in no way a reflection of the hardworking and dedicated officers who uphold the highest standards of professionalism, and who conducts themselves with the highest degree of integrity.
