Central Kentucky Community Foundation (CKCF) will match all donations to Elizabethtown Community and Technical College’s (ECTC) Home for Hope campaign, up to $100,000.

“The dollar-for-dollar donation match, which runs from now until December 4, will support ECTC and Family Scholar House’s efforts to build on-campus housing for student parents,” the school said in a press release.

“This is an amazing opportunity for donors to double their impact, and we can’t thank CKCF enough for working with us to help improve the lives of our students,” said ECTC Chief Institutional Advancement Officer and ECTC Foundation Executive Director Dr. Megan Stith. “This gift match shows that now more than ever any amount donated, whether it’s $20 or $2,000 and beyond, will go that much further toward supporting ECTC students who work so hard to create a better future for their families.”

Stith said that huge barriers to students completing their education are housing and transportation insecurity. In the last quarter along Family Scholar House provided more than $10,000 in financial assistance to students. More than half of that amount went toward household and transportation expenses.

The Home for Hope campaign seeks to remove those barriers by building a 48-unit Family Scholar House facility on ECTC’s campus adjacent to the James S. Owen Building. It will feature two- and three-bedroom apartments, technology and connectivity, a playground, and a family services building with necessary programmatic space and resources.

The total cost of the project is $14.8 million. With donations, vouchers and tax credits, the remaining amount needed to complete the project is around $750,000.

“We understand the impact Home for Hope will have both for ECTC students and the community at large,” CKCF President and CEO Davette B. Swiney said. “As these students complete their education and have more opportunities for success, they will have a greater ability to support their families in a long-term manner. CKCF is proud to partner with ECTC to help build lasting change, and we hope this match gift helps inspire the continued community support needed for this project to become reality.”

Construction on the housing facility is set to begin in spring 2024, with plans to open in early 2025. Priority will be given to student parents pursuing high-demand careers in healthcare and advanced manufacturing.
