A firefighter in Leslie County has been killed in the line of duty.

Regina M. Huffman, 39, a lieutenant with the Coon Creek Fire & Rescue, died early Sunday morning, according to the Kentucky Firefighters Association (KFA).

Huffman responded Saturday night at approximately 10:00 to an ATV accident that resulted in an injured rider being airlifted. While en route to the medical helicopter landing zone with her oldest son, “the apparatus Firefighter Huffman was riding in … slipped off the roadway, went down an embankment, and struck a house,” the KFA said.

She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased a few hours later. Huffman’s son suffered only minor injuries.

She is survived by her six children.
