A man has died in a freak hunting accident in Anderson County.

Jared J. Hausfield, 37, of Versailles, died Saturday afternoon when he was attempting to harvest a deer he thought was dead. The deer, though, made a sudden movement causing Hausfield to accidentally stab himself in the leg with a large hunting knife, according to a report by WKYT.com.

The Anderson County Coroner’s Office said Hausfield died prior to family members finding him.

Hausfield had been hunting in the Gilbert Creek Road area near Lawrenceburg.
