Coach who led Breckinridge Co. to boys basketball state title in 1965 passes away

A former Breckinridge County High School boys basketball coach has died.

Don Morris, 86, passed away on Wednesday, according to his obituary at Manakee Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.

Morris, originally from Upton, led Breckinridge County to the state title in 1965, beating Covington Holy Cross 95-73. The year prior, Morris’ squad advanced to the finals of the Sweet 16 before falling to a Wes Unseld-led Seneca High School team, 66-56.

Morris, a graduate of Sonora High School and WKU, also served as head basketball coach at East Hardin High School.

His career head coaching record, according to the KHSAA, was 305-168. He was inducted into the Dawahares KHSAA Hall of Fame in 2000.
