Grayson County Fiscal Court met on Thursday and accepted a bid for the old sheriff’s office and approved three roadways for approved golf cart usage.
Old sheriff’s office
Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson told the court that the highest bid received for the old Grayson County Sheriff’s Office building at 44 Public Square in Leitchfield was from Southern Builders of Kentucky in the amount of $370,070.
Magistrates voted unanimously to sell the property.
Three roads approved for golf cart use
Magistrates voted to designate Rocky Hill Estates Road, Lake Lane and Sims Drive as county roadways open to golf cart usage.
Although a road has been designated a county roadway for the purposes of allowing golf carts, the golf cart itself, and the driver of the golf cart must adhere to the regulations set forth by ordinance and Kentucky Revised Statutes.
“Just because we approved Rocky Hill Estates Road for the use of golf carts; the golf carts still have to be registered, still have to be certified and meet the criteria,” Sheriff Norman Chaffins stressed. “A lot of people think that when it’s enacted in that subdivision that it’s a free-for-all. That’s not the case. We’re still getting a lot of calls and complaints. We’ve written several citations at every location where they’ve been approved.”

In other business, Jailer Jason Woosley asked for and received permission from the court to advertise for bids for an electronic medical records system for the Grayson County Detention Center.
Fiscal Court then entered into an Executive Session to discuss a “potential litigation issue,” according to County Attorney Jeremy Logsdon.
When magistrates emerged from the 14-minute private session, Logsdon said no action was taken.
