A man has been arrested after being found with over 30 dogs living in a van.

The Whitesburg Police Department responded to a gas station on Sunday afternoon after a van, being driven by Billy Coleman, of Bluff City, Tennessee, struck a vehicle in the parking lot, according to WYMT.com. When police arrived at the scene, they found Coleman and another man fighting in the parking lot.

Police pepper sprayed the two men, ending the altercation.

Further investigation showed Coleman and his wife had been living in the van with 35 dogs for approximately two weeks.

Police turned the dogs over to the Appalachian Pet Pantry until homes can be found.

Coleman was charged with multiple counts of second-degree animal cruelty, fourth-degree assault, second-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree disorderly conduct. He was lodged in the Letcher County Jail.
