A local judge has been seriously injured in a car accident caused by a driver being blinded by the sun.
Hardinsburg Police Department Sgt. Rick Mehlbauer, a former deputy with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the crash Wednesday afternoon at approximately 6:00.
WXBC.com reports the accident involved someone “later identified as Bruce Butler,” with Mehlbauer confirming to K105 that the injured person is Judge Bruce T. Butler, Circuit Judge for the 46th Judicial District which includes Grayson, Breckinridge and Meade counties.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Hwy 261 and the bypass in Hardinsburg when a “westbound driver” on the bypass “was blinded by the sun” and failed to stop for a traffic signal, according to WXBC.com. The vehicle proceeded through the intersection and t-boned Butler’s vehicle.
Butler was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit, where he remains as of 5:00 Thursday afternoon, according to Mehlbauer.
