Two suspects are facing engaging in organized crime and drug trafficking charges after trying to smuggle drugs into a jail using a prosthetic leg.
The Oldham County Police Department arrested 26-year-old Steven A. Jones and 23-year-old Tyler Childers, both of Louisville, after the pair attempted to sneak drugs into the Oldham County Detention Center, according to a report by The Oldham Era.
The incident began on Monday when jail officials recorded a conversation between Childers and an inmate during a visit. During the conversation, Childers and the inmate discussed bringing drugs into the jail using a prosthetic leg covered in a sock.
The next day, Jones arrived at the jail with a prosthetic leg and sock. Jail officials seized the leg and discovered 16 bags containing a powdery substance, orange in color, that had been sewn into the top of the sock. The Kentucky State Police crime lab is analyzing the substance.
During the investigation, law enforcement discovered Childers had driven Jones to the detention facility.
Childers was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (drug unspecified), first-degree promoting contraband, engaging in organized crime, conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine, drug unspecified), possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jones was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (drug unspecified), first-degree promoting contraband and engaging in organized crime.
They are both being held in the Oldham County Detention Center on $20,000 cash bonds.
