Hyundai and Kia are recalling nearly 92,000 vehicles over concerns that an oil pump assembly may overheat and cause fires.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the affected vehicles include certain 2023 Hyundai Elantra, Kona, Palisade, Sonata, Tucson and 2024 Palisade models, as well as some 2023 Kia Seltos, Soul, Sportage and 2024 Seltos models.

The two Korean automakers, which share a manufacturer, said the issue lies with certain vehicles’ electric oil pump controllers.

“The electronic controller for the Idle Stop & Go oil pump assembly may contain damaged electrical components that can cause the pump to overheat,” the NHTSA said. “An electric oil pump assembly that overheats increases the risk of a vehicle fire.”

The manufacturers urge owners to “park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete.”

Hyundai owners are expected to be notified starting September 25, while Kia owners will start receiving letters about the recalls three days later.
