A northern Kentucky teen was killed early Sunday morning after her vehicle was struck by a loose tire.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene on southbound I-75 for a single-vehicle collision.
According to a release, the preliminary investigation showed that 18-year-old Lauren Collins, of Independence, was driving south on the interstate when her windshield was hit by a tire.
Collins was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where she later died.
Officials believe that the tire came from a northbound vehicle, potentially a dually truck, when it broke away and bounced over the concrete barrier into the other lane.
The vehicle in question was not located by law enforcement.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation.
