The Meade County Sheriff’s Office has released an update on a death investigation after a Brandenburg woman was found deceased.
“Detectives with the Meade County Sheriff’s Office have methodically and relentlessly investigated the murder of Rhonda Aebersold. An autopsy was conducted on the victim and the medical examiner’s office has ruled this death a homicide,” Meade County Sheriff Phillip Wimpee said.
Wimpee added that, “Detectives have identified a suspect or suspects in this case and are continuing to work to eliminate other parties.”
The sheriff said detectives continue to collect evidence and are awaiting test results from evidence already collected.
“As soon as sufficient evidence has been collected that would support criminal charges and a successful prosecution of the suspects, detectives will file arrest warrants on any suspect identified,” according to Wimpee. “The information on a suspect or suspects will not be released until charges have been filed.”
The investigation, according to Wimpee, has led police to “believe this is an isolated event and that there is not a general threat to the public by the suspected assailants in this case.”
He said detectives have executed over 20 search warrants in the case.

In addition to the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police, U.S. Marshals Service and the Meade Co. Commonwealth Attorney’s Office are investigating the case.
