A Scott County deputy has been killed during a traffic stop.
Scott County Deputy Caleb Conley, 35, was shot and killed Monday afternoon at approximately 4:50 during a traffic stop near the 127-mile marker of southbound I-75, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office said. Conley was attempting to stop a suspect from fleeing the scene when he was shot, the Herald-Leader reports.
The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, was apprehended.
WKYT said the station’s weather camera picked up increased police activity at an I-75 rest stop near Georgetown, but it’s unclear if the rest stop is where the traffic stop occurred.
Conley was a four-year veteran of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. He served eight years in the U.S. Army.
The investigation is being led by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team. More information on the deadly shooting is expected to be released by KSP in the coming days.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement on Conley’s death:
