More than 200 students who have already earned career pathway certifications were celebrated on Wednesday at a breakfast hosted in partnership with the Grayson County Chamber of Commerce.

According to Grayson Center Technology Center Director Matt Hayes, students with industry certifications have a higher GPA, graduate at a rate of 98 percent compared to those who don’t, and make seven percent more in lifetime earnings.

The tech center recently received end of program assessment results, which culminates in college credit for students who pass the exams. This year, the school had a pass rate of 77 percent compared to 56 percent statewide, translating to 333 hours of dual credit and a student savings of $61,000, based on Kentucky Community & Technical College System rates.

Guest speakers Robert and Mandi McKenzie shared their backgrounds and journeys, overcoming obstacles with determination and persistence along the way. Taking initiative, mentorship, and close, positive associations were among the themes the couple discussed.

Both acknowledged life’s “bumps in the road,” and while plans will change, “never give up. If something’s not working, make a change.”
