Elizabethtown Community and Technical College’s Toy Box Theatre will celebrate its 23rd production this year with Aesop’s Toy Box. Four morning performances will be offered to visiting elementary schools with an evening performance open to the public at 6:30 p.m. April 18 in the Science Auditorium on ECTC’s Elizabethtown campus. Directed by Katrina Eicher, professor of communication and theater, the play is a comedic telling of four of Aesop’s fables: The Fox and the Crow, The Fox and the Grapes, The Tortoise and the Hare, and The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing. Children from the audience will interact with the actors, and adults will have plenty to entertain them. The production lasts about one hour.
Started at Elizabethtown Community College in 1998 by Eicher, the cast is comprised of college students, many first-time actors, who enroll in the class to gain performance experience and reach out to our community. Many area
Eicher said the goal of Toy Box Theatre is to encourage imagination in young audiences.
“We use common household products and toys for our props to show the kids that, by using your imagination, you can make theater magic anywhere, with anything,” said Eicher.
