An eastern Kentucky man has been killed in a Kentucky State Police shooting.
The shooting occurred Friday afternoon at approximately 3:00 when troopers were attempting to locate a suspect, 65-year-old Glenn E. Bays, of Harold. Bays was wanted in connection to a domestic disturbance earlier in the day.
Police located Bays as he drove on Hwy 23 in Prestonsburg, and executed a traffic stop.
“During the traffic stop the trooper was placed in a life-threatening situation by the vehicle operator, and in response discharged an agency-issued firearm striking the male subject,” Kentucky State Police said.
Bays was pronounced deceased by the Floyd County Coroner’s Office.
The name of the trooper involved in the shooting has not been released.
The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is leading the investigation.
