Katie Mae Moxley McGhee, age 82, of Millwood, KY, entered into heaven on Friday, (September 23, 2022) at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY.
She was born on February 15, 1940 in Pattyville, KY, the daughter of the late W.R. and Christine Moxley.
After graduating Fordsville High School as the Valedictorian, Katie attended Western Kentucky University where she met the love of her life, “Red”. She then worked for almost 25 years for the Grayson County Board of Education and retired from there in 2011. Katie was known as the “Copy Lady” and NO ONE touched her copier.
Katie was a strong, devoted, believer in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a daily reader of God’s word and listened to her favorite preachers online. She was a loving and faithful wife, a compassionate, devoted and loving mother. She was the absolute best Grandma Katie, and always had a special hug and song, “Rock A Bye Baby” ready for her kids, grands, and great grands. Katie loved her home and loved looking out the window or sitting on the deck looking out across the field watching her horse, Bucket, run. She loved to sew, cook, bake, and garden. She was always up for an adventure, loved to travel, and going to the beach with all her family was a personal favorite. She almost always had an answer for any of the questions any of her family had – and if not she would have them pray about it and move forward.
She is survived by her husband of almost 62 years, E.E. Red McGhee; her children, Kathy (Dale), Earl, Nick (Willemijn) & Nathaniel (Katie); 11 grandchildren, Justin, Katelynn, Will, Samantha, Zachary, Miranda, Matthew, Malachy, Ryker, Ava & Renley; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill (Bonnie) & Kenny (Linda); a sister Betty; and an amazing friend of 59 plus years, Nowanda Mudd. A multitude of friends made over many years as a Grayson County resident also survive.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bob; and a grandson, Eric.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, (October 1, 2022) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Gary Beatty and Bro. Jeremy Atwood will be officiating. Private burial will follow.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to any of the following: The American Heart Association, the Wounded Warrior Project, The Kidney Foundation, The Diabetes Foundation or to No Child Left Behind.
