A Caneyville felon is facing drug, gun and hindering prosecution or apprehension charges.

On Wednesday evening September 15 at approximately 9:30, Grayson County Deputies Wally Ritter, Erik Franklin and Andy Cast arrived at 28 East Frank Street in Caneyville to serve a suspect, Dakota Payton, 26, of Caneyville, with an arrest warrant for first-degree criminal mischief.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies made contact with 61-year-old David A. Bryan, who was sitting in a truck, according to the arrest citation. Police asked Bryan if Payton was at the location, with Bryan “mumbling, nah man.”

During a search of the area, deputies located Payton “eight feet away (from Bryan) hiding in a car,” the citation states. He was taken into custody.

Bryan was also arrested, initially, for hindering prosecution or apprehension because he lied to deputies when he told them Payton was not on the property. During a search of Bryan, a convicted felon, police found methamphetamine, a handgun and drug paraphernalia, according to the citation.

In addition to the hindering prosecution or apprehension count, Bryan was charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both suspects were lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
