A University of Kentucky professor has been accused of sexually abusing a young relative.
Kevin Real, 65, chair of the Department of Communications at the university, was arrested Thursday by Lexington police and charged with first-degree sexual abuse (victim under the age of 12), incest and first-degree sodomy.
UK spokesman Jay Blanton told media outlets that Real has been placed on administrative leave.
Real has been a professor at UK since 2002 and became department chair in 2020, according to the College of Communication and Information’s website.
He was lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center on a $15,000 cash bond.
The school’s newspaper, the Kentucky Kernel, first reported the arrest.
