A Leitchfield man has been killed in a multi-vehicle accident on the Western Kentucky Parkway.
Thursday morning at approximately 8:20, Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins, Chief Deputy Jarrod Mudd, the Leitchfield Fire Department, EMS and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet responded to the crash near the 103-mile marker of the Western Kentucky Parkway.
After discovering someone had perished in the accident, Kentucky State Police was requested to reconstruct the accident, with troopers arriving within a half-hour of other first responders.
The accident involved a 2003 Jeep Liberty, a 2016 Ford Fusion and a semi truck.
According to police, the Jeep Liberty, being driven by 34-year-old Meagan Renfrow, of Morgantown, was traveling east when it crossed the median and into the westbound lanes where it struck the Ford, being driven by 31-year-old Dakota Parks, of Leitchfield.
The impact, police said, propelled the Ford into the eastbound lanes where it essentially bounced off the semi truck before coming to rest in the median. The Jeep left the roadway on the westbound side of the parkway.
The Ford and Jeep came to rest around 250 yards from each other.
Renfrow was transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The truck driver was unhurt.
Parks was pronounced deceased at the scene by Grayson County Deputy Coroner Larry Holeman.
The westbound parkway lanes were shut down until about 1:20 Thursday afternoon as Kentucky State Police reconstructed the accident. The eastbound parkway was reduced to one lane, except for a short period of time when the lanes were also closed due to reconstruction.
(Mr. Parks, who is from Grayson County, resided in Eastview at the time of his death.)
