All COVID-19 numbers up in Kentucky

The number of COVID-19 cases, positivity rate, deaths, and hospitalizations all rose in Kentucky last week.

During the week ending Sunday, 15,884 new cases were reported, up from the 12,798 cases reported to the Kentucky Department for Public Health the previous week, and giving the state 39,631 new cases over the last three weeks (13,210 per week).

Kentucky has now had 1,451,859 COVID cases reported since the beginning of the pandemic.

There were 59 COVID-related deaths during the week ending Sunday, up from the 49 deaths reported two weeks ago.  Over the last three weeks, 170 Kentuckians have perished from the virus.

In total, 16,352 Kentuckians have died from COVID or complications from the virus.

The COVID positivity rate rose from 17.70 percent two weeks ago to 19.11 percent last week.

There were 598 people hospitalized last week, up from the 589 patients hospitalized two weeks ago, and up 23.8 percent from the 483 people hospitalized three weeks ago.

There were 84 patients in intensive care last week, up from the 78 ICU patients the previous week. The number of people on a ventilator nearly doubled from 18 two weeks ago to 33 last week.

There are currently 80 Kentucky counties in the “red,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, indicating a “high” spread of the virus. Thirty-three counties, including Grayson County, are in the “yellow,” signaling a “medium” spread, and seven counties are in the “green,” indicating a “low” spread of the virus.
