A Somerset man has been arrested after assaulting a female in her residence before killing a person less than a mile away from where the assault occurred.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office arrested 57-year-old John Stacy on Saturday night and charged him with murder, attempted murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree assault, and kidnapping (adult).
On Saturday morning at approximately 1:05, deputies responded to Parrot Drive, about seven miles southeast of Somerset, after a woman reported being assaulted by Stacy.
According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, “Stacy entered a female victim’s residence while being armed with a gun. While inside the residence, he assaulted the female victim. Stacy held her at that residence against her will by physically assaulting her and threatening her with the loaded handgun.”
The female victim was transported by private means to a hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Then, at approximately 10:45 Saturday morning, deputies responded to a shooting on Paradise Lake Drive, less than a mile from where the assault took place on Parrot Drive, and discovered a person deceased from gunshot wounds.
Further investigation showed that Stacy was not only a suspect in the assault but also the murder on Paradise Lake Drive.
During the early evening hours of Saturday, a deputy executed a traffic stop on Stacy, taking the suspect into custody. He was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center on a $500,000 cash bond.
Police have not released the names of the victims.
“Motive in both these cases is still being determined,” police said.
Assisting in the investigation were Kentucky State Police and the Somerset Police Department.
