The National Weather Service (NWS) in Louisville has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for central Kentucky, including Grayson County.

The warning is in effect until 8:00 Tuesday night. A Heat Advisory will go into effect Tuesday night at 8:00 and last until Wednesday night at 8:00.

The NWS predicts the Heat Index will reach “near 110” Tuesday afternoon, with Wednesday’s Heat Index expected to reach between 105 and 109. Humidity levels are forecast to remain above 80 percent for the next several days.

(The heat index, also known as the apparent temperature, is what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature.)

The temperature during the early afternoon to early evening hours is predicted to be in the mid- to upper-90s until Friday, with prevailing sunshine.

Officials recommend residents drink plenty of fluids and stay in an air conditioned room when possible.

Additionally, check on neighbors, particularly the elderly, during the heat wave.
