A man has been convicted of two counts of manslaughter in the killings of a Breckinridge Co. man and Elizabethtown man nearly two years ago near Custer.

Robert Lee Johnson, 24, of Louisville, was found guilty of second-degree manslaughter in the August 2020 death of 45-year-old Steven R. Gann, of Garfield, and first-degree manslaughter in the death of 26-year-old Jacob R. Loeffler, of Elizabethtown, according to a report by WXBC.com.

On the morning of August 6, 2020, at approximately 12:35, Grayson Co. Central Dispatch alerted local law enforcement to be on the lookout for a black Volkswagon Jetta that might contain a male subject who had been shot.

The information was referred to Grayson Co. dispatch by Breckinridge Co. authorities, who received a report of possible gunfire injuring at least one person. The vehicle was reported to have left the Hwy 1037 area of Breckinridge Co., traveling in an unknown direction.

Then, at about 1:45, Grayson Co. dispatch alerted police that the car in question may contain not a possible victim, but the shooting suspect, and that he should be considered armed and dangerous. Dispatch reported that when Breckinridge Co. authorities arrived at the home where the 911 call originated, in the 200 block of Blackberry Circle Lane (about one mile south of Custer), the bodies of Gann and Loeffler were found. Both men had been shot multiple times.

Johnson was arrested later that day at a Louisville apartment near Iroquois Park by Kentucky State Police. Johnson, who was originally charged with two counts of murder, faces up to 30 years in prison when he is formally sentenced next month.
