Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday to honor the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy who was killed in the line of duty Monday afternoon.
Jody W. Cash, 44, a former Kentucky State Trooper, was killed when he exchanged gunfire with an as of yet unidentified suspect in front of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. The male suspect was also killed.
Funeral services for Cash are scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 1:00 at the CFSB Center at Murray State University.
The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the double shooting.
Cash was a longtime trooper, serving with the agency from 2011 until 2018, and rising to the rank of sergeant. He also previously worked with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office and Murray State University Police Department.
Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins, also a former state trooper, wrote on the GCSO’s Facebook page:
“Jody was one of a kind. One of the best K.S.P. Troopers ever!! RIP hero!”
