Kentucky State Police is investigating after a three-year-old girl was struck and killed after wandering onto a busy roadway.
Troopers on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 3:00, responded to Hwy 421 south near Manchester after a 1996 Dodge pickup, being driven by 59-year-old Delbert l. Allen, of Manchester, struck and killed three-year-old Tessa Brumley.
Police said the child was in the roadway when she was struck.
Clay County Coroner Jarrod Becknell told media outlets that the child was playing in her yard, roughly 10 feet from the roadway, when she wandered onto the road.
The toddler was transported to Advent Health Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Police said drugs and alcohol were not contributing factors in the accident.
The incident remains under investigation.
