One person has been killed in a Kentucky State Police shooting in eastern Kentucky.

State police said the fatal shooting occurred Sunday night at approximately 11:00 on Lacey Creek Road, about five miles north of Salyersville in Magoffin County.

Other than police reporting a male was killed in the shooting, no other details regarding the incident have been released.

The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is investigating.

On January 28, a trooper was shot six times during a traffic stop in a trailer park in Cynthiana, about 28 miles north of Lexington.

KSP said the preliminary investigation showed that three of the shots struck the trooper’s ballistic vest; one shot struck his taser; one struck his body-worn radio; and the final round struck his body, causing serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The trooper, according to media reports, returned fire, emptying the firearm’s magazine. Witnesses told news outlets that up to 20 shots were fired during the exchange.

The injured trooper has been released from the hospital and is recovering at his home, according to police.

State police arrested 22-year-old LeeQuan T. Taylor, of Lexington, soon after the shooting and charged him with attempted murder of a police office, first-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

He is being held in the Bourbon County Regional Detention Center on a $1 million cash bond.
