The brother of a Bullitt County man murdered in late January as his trailer was being stolen has shot the man suspected of killing his brother.

On Wednesday, Stanley E. Watts Jr., 44, of Shepherdsville, shot 22-year-old Bradlee Simmons, of Brownsville (and who has connections to Morgantown as well), in the parking lot of Pic-Pac, in the 6600 block of Southside Drive in south Louisville. Watts, who fired at Simmons four times, shot him once in the leg and fled the scene, police said.

Simmons was transported to University of Louisville Hospital with a non-life threatening injury. He was arrested later that day by the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office and charged with murder and first-degree robbery. Simmons is being held in the Bullitt County Detention Center.

Simmons, a felon, was wanted for killing Stanley Watts’ brother, 42-year-old Kevin Watts, while stealing his enclosed trailer (containing a race car) from his residence in the 1600 block of Woodsdale Road, about 10 miles southeast of Shepherdsville, during the early morning hours of January 22.

The other suspect in the murder of Kevin Watts, 38-year-old Richard K. Reno, of Louisville, was arrested on January 31. He’s also being held in the Bullitt County Detention Center and is facing the same charges as Simmons.

Stanley Watts turned himself in to authorities and is being held in Louisville Metro Corrections where he’s been charged with attempted murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Simmons arrested in Grayson Co.

Simmons was arrested by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office during the early morning hours of September 20, 2020, after being found walking alongside the Western Kentucky Parkway near his wrecked Saturn passenger car.

During a search of the vehicle, police found an open alcohol container as well as a firearm. The plates on the Saturn did not match the vehicle.

He was charged with DUI, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, along with multiple non-moving violations.
