Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins has announced the law enforcement officer selected as the 2021 Grayson County Deputy of Year.

At Tuesday’s Fiscal Court meeting, Chaffins said Deputy Nick Pruitt was “unanimously” selected by his peers as Deputy of the Year.

“This young man is from another county (he’s originally from Green Co.), but he treats people in Grayson County like he was born and raised here. He treats them like they are his family, and that’s one of the reasons he was selected 2021 Deputy of the Year,” Chaffins said. “His heart is here in Grayson County when he’s working.”

Pruitt has been active in developing drug cases and other investigations, and is responsible for the seizure of thousands of dollars of “dirty” money, firearms and drugs.

“He’s worked some pretty high-profile cases” Chaffins said, “and he’s made a lot of good drug arrests. He’s probably our top drug arrest guy in our office. He’s been responsible for seizing over several thousand dollars’ worth of drug money … We’re very thankful for that and very thankful to have him working with the (Grayson County) Sheriff’s Office.”

Chaffins also praised his other deputies, as he contends they constitute one of the top law enforcement agencies in Kentucky.

“Nick works alongside some of the best deputies … I would put my deputies up against any deputies in the state of Kentucky or in the nation. We have a top-notch crew right now that really want to do a good job and really want to make a positive impact in our community; and they’re doing it. I’m very thankful for that and very thankful for Nick.”

Pruitt, who served as a Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Office prior to joining the GCSO, has been an asset for the agencies’ newer deputies as well.

“He’s a very rounded deputy and has been a HUGE help to me,” Deputy Erik Franklin said about his co-worker.
