Kentucky State Police is investigating the second fatal officer-involved shooting in Elizabethtown in fewer than five days.

According to state police, the second shooting occurred Saturday morning at approximately 9:20 in the 200 block of Wingfield Court, behind Abound Credit Union just off Ring Road.

Elizabethtown police told The News-Enterprise an officer made contact with a male who became “violent” toward the officer. An altercation ensued with the officer fatally shooting the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner’s Office.

The officer was transported to Baptist Health Hardin for treatment of injuries sustained during the altercation.

The first of the two shootings occurred Tuesday night around 5:45 when an Elizabethtown officer responded to a violent domestic disturbance on Pleasant View Drive, parallel to North Dixie Highway in a densely residential area.

At some point after the officer arrived, he fired his weapon, striking and killing the suspect, police said.

The Kentucky State Police Critical Response Team is investigating both shootings.

The names of the victims and officers involved have not yet been released.
