A man has been charged with multiple counts of attempted murder after shooting at three vehicles and injuring one person while driving on I-65.
On Saturday afternoon, Kentucky State Police said a 911 caller reported that her vehicle had been shot by a person in a vehicle on northbound I-65 near the 58-mile marker in Hart County. The caller, police said, was able to give a vehicle description, registration plate information as well as a description of the driver.
Soon after, a second 911 call was received from another motorist who advised that his vehicle had also been shot and that a passenger in his vehicle had been struck. The second caller provided the same vehicle and driver description.
A third vehicle was later discovered to have been shot in the incident, as well.
Troopers located the vehicle and driver, 51-year-old James L. Hooper, Jr., of Louisville, near the 84-mile marker of the interstate. Police conducted a traffic stop and arrested Hooper.
He was charged with five counts of attempted murder and five-counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and lodged in the Hart County Jail.
The victim was transported to Baptist Health Hardin with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said no connection between the victims and Hooper has been discovered.
The investigation is ongoing and being led by Trooper Robert Hartley
