Two Grayson County residents have been arrested in connection to the robbery of the Caneyville Valero.
Sunday night at approximately 10:15, Grayson County Deputies Caleb Owens and Nick Pruitt responded to the armed robbery at the Valero (known locally as the Quick Stop) at 512 Morgantown Street.
The suspect, a white male, arrived at the station in a gray SUV about 30 minutes prior to the robbery. He left without incident. He then returned on foot with his face covered with a gray hoodie or sweat shirt, brandished a firearm and pointed it at the clerk’s head while demanding money from the cash register. After taking the cash, he fled the area on foot, walking north toward Caneyville.
On Wednesday, according to the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, information was developed which led deputies to a residence on Grayson Springs Road where police made contact with the suspect, 21-year-old Montgomery T. Smith, of Clarkson, who fled out the back door of the residence before being captured by police.
Under questioning, Smith admitted to his role in the robbery.
The investigation then led police to a second suspect, 25-year-old Bradley W. Hendrix, of Caneyville, the clerk who was working during the robbery.
Both men were arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, with Hendrix charged with tampering with physical evidence. Smith is also facing several drug charges.
Smith and Hendrix were lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing.
